Nicolaus Copernicus University agreement with the Marshal of the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship

Nicolaus Copernicus University signed an agreement with the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship on cooperation in the project e-Culture of Kujawy and Pomerania, conducted under the Regional Operational Program 2007-2013. e-Culture is a key part of the project e-Services — e-Organization — a package of information technologies solutions for the voivodeship.

Quarter of a million of Polish digital objects in the Europeana!

From 11th December 2009 resources of several Polish digital libraries participating in the PIONIER Network Digital Libraries Federation are available in the European Digital Library – Europeana. These resources include over 250 000 digital objects made available by the hundreds of cultural and scientific institutions from different regions of Poland. Among them are treasures of Polish national heritage, as well as interesting regional materials or modern scientific and educational publications. A vast majority of publications is available to all Internet users without any restrictions.

100 x Creative Commons

The Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library already has over 100 publications, which are available under Creative Commons licenses. Negotiations with the authors are not easy, because librarian have to explain them exactly what CC licenses mean, hardly anyone knows it. Then we have to suggest to authors what type is the best for them. But we will continue efforts to raise awareness about Creative Commons, and explain that it depends on authors, under what conditions they want their work available on the Internet and how it is important that, thanks to modern licenses, users know exactly how they may exploit digital objects.

At the request of the Nicolaus Copernicus University Institute of Physics our Library digitalized all the scientific articles by Professor Alexander Jabłoński and placed them online in the Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library with the permission of the family of Professor. Professor Jabłoński was working under the field of atom, optics-molecular physics, and in particular on the pressure broadening and luminescence spectral lines.

New Partners in KPDL (Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library)

In 2009 the project Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library has new partners, which are: Torun Center for Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu, Baj Pomorski Theatre, Dwór Artusa Centre for Culture and the Grudziądz Municipal Library signs the agreement. All these institutions which have signed an agreement on cooperation with the KPDL will digitize publications related to our region, precious objects or cultural heritage or objects born digital that arise in the KPDL on a regular basis. Librarians, culture and museum officers had been trained by the Nicolaus Copernicus University Library teams and provided with appropriate software, so work can begin immediately.

KPDL Regional Seminar

The Nicolaus Copernicus University Library intends to organize (5 November 2008, Torun) a regional seminar for institutions promoting culture interested in participating in creating digital library (KPDL) resources. During the seminar the following will be presented in detail: the digital project and the KPDL content, than plans for the future. Arrangements were also discussed about the possibility of participation in the work and finding sources of funding for the project.

KPBC and Creative Commons licenses

The Kujawsko-Pomorska Digital Library (Kujawsko-Pomorska Biblioteka Cyfrowa) has opened access to a first batch of current publications using the terms of the Creative Commons licenses. The Library Coordinator began to reach out to authors on the subject of this simple and user-friendly method of publishing and received the permission from several authors and publishers to provide access to 16 documents, mainly post-print and pre-print articles.

The Kujawsko Pomorska Digital Library is on the list of Top 200 Repositories compiled by the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Centro Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.

Bydgostiana – Bydgoszcz collection in KPDL

The Kazimierz Wielki University Library has been gradually enriching their Cuiaviana et Pomeranica digital collection in particular by adding newspapers and magazines. One of the major published items is Przegląd Bydgoski: czasopismo regionalne naukowo-literackie containing articles, sketches and dissertations devoted to the history of the city, its literature, theatre, musical life and also geography.

Kazimierz Wielki University Graphics Collection
